BOCC: Playing League for other clubs - clarification

08 Aug 2024

Fellow members,

Our constitution specifies that members are permitted to play league cricket for other clubs, but that they may not play LEAGUE matches against the BOCC. The constitution does not specify the penalty for such infringements.

Thus, the penalty is to be decided by the club committee as a policy matter, which may be updated by that committee from time to time, as they deem appropriate. This is not a matter to be placed at the discretion of the cricket committee as it can place the skippers in a conflict of interest and may result in inconsistent enforcement. To clarify, this rule does not apply to social cricket.

This year a few questions have come up regarding this matter, so the club committee has decided that there has become a need to define a policy. So after some discussion, the current policy has been agreed upon...

The penalty for BOCC members playing league (or multi-week cup) competitions against the BOCC will be removal of that player's eligibility for selection for any (league or social) match for the remainder of the current season. Subsequent offenses will result in the cancellation of the player's membership.
